The 65th Annual
LIBRARY FAIR!
Saturday, June 11 from 10 – 3.
The Stone Ridge Library Fair boasts a long tradition—65 years! Although many of the features have changed over time, the spirit of the Library Fair endures. Once again, the Library will host THE party of the year, featuring the Giant Book Tent with bargains galore, the Plant Tent brimming with locally grown annuals, perennials, vegetable seedlings and daylilies.
Local authors will have their work available for sale and autographing—the ideal gift for bibliophile buddies. Eleanor's Emporium will offer sparkling tableware and lovely textiles at bargain prices, and the Saturday Knitters will join with other fiber artists to demonstrate and sell their homespun wonders. For teens and children, there will be lots of books, games, and activities for a full day of F.U.N.
Fairgoers can select from our mouthwatering menu of traditional Fair delights: sausage and peppers, hot dogs and hamburgers, vegetarian entrees, lemonade, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn, and homemade baked treats—with strawberry shortcake topping the list of favorites. Ah, summer!

Live music will be provided all day, with the Rondout Valley High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Barbara Wild wrapping things up.

Priscilla Derven
at the Library, Spring 2011
Fifteen of Priscilla Derven's paintings will be on view throughout the Stone Ridge Library this spring. The works are mostly small and executed in several media. These include encaustics on wood panels, caseins on wood panels, oils on linen and one larger watercolor/gouache on paper shown courtesy of John Davis Gallery in Hudson, NY, with whom Derven has been showing regularly for the past seven years. She also has been showing with the Fleming Street Gallery in Key West, FL, for the past three years. Her work includes the threads of two continuing themes: paintings of people on the beach and images of skirmishes taken from movie imagery.
Derven was born in Nyack, NY, and educated at Hunter College. Her work experiences include teaching art with children as well as college-level students, graphic and newspaper design and textile design as a free lancer doing paintings for printed fabrics both for home furnishings and apparel. For the past ten years she's worked exclusively on her own art.
She moved to High Falls from Brooklyn, NY, with her husband Steve MacDonald in 1986. Since 1993 they've been dividing their time between High Falls and Key West.

KNITTING GROUP
Every Saturday
10am-noon
The Stone Ridge Library Knitters meet every Saturday morning from 10am - 12noon. All ages and experience levels can join us and drop-in knitters are also welcome. We each bring our own supplies and do our own work, but one of the best things about us is that whatever obstacle or confusion you might encounter, you're likely to receive as much comment and advice as you need to get where you're going with a project. Some of us can help toward the repair of knitted or crocheted items too.
The group is sociable and lively, and our conversation and sharing is just as wide-ranging as our projects. We are especially interested in the UFOs (Un-Finished Objects) that members bring in and love the show and tell of projects under way and being finished, new or old, simple or complex. Though knitting is our love and mainstay, we graciously adapt ourselves to stray crocheters and those of us who simply must take to the hook when the spirit moves. We share articles, magazines and books on knitting. Donations of yarn to the Library get made up into items for sale at the Library Fair and during the winter holidays for the benefit of the Library. Some of us also knit things for local hospitals or for the U.S. troops.

with the
Library's Buttresses?

Wed. June 8, 7pm at the Community Center

Create Your Future at the Stone Ridge Public Library
Many patrons and community members participated in a series of focus groups conducted by an independent consultant this past winter. From these focus groups, we've concluded that the Library can best be described as a place for all of us: it's for children learning to enjoy reading; for teens and tweens engaging their love for technology; for adults exploring new ideas and opportunities through programming and library resources; and for seniors staying connected and engaged with our community.
At Stone Ridge Public Library, we level the playing field, challenge you to find new and creative ways to approach the world, and provide you with the resources you'll need for whatever personal growth you seek. Our new tagline—Create your Future—conveys all that and more.
We are here and ready to help you create your future. So, come on in. We look forward to helping you.

Stieg Larsson: Behind "The Drgaon Tattoo"

Stieg Larsson remains a best-selling author, although he never lived to see (or enjoy) his worldwide success. Although he died before his "Millenium Trilogy" became a publishing phenomenon, Lisbeth Salander ("the girl with the dragon tattoo") and Mikael Blomkvist (the journalist who helps her) are part of today's popular culture.
"Who was Stieg Larsson? Did he use models for his lead characters? What were his politics? Did politics influence his stories? Where are those hard-to-pronounce places? Join us for a pictorial journey behind the books." From AwsomeStories. more
