Hop into Spring
Saturday, April 5 from 10:00-1:00
on the Library Lawn
for toddlers through age 10
suggested donation of $1 per child
National Honor Society students from Rondout Valley High School will host "Hop into Spring" on the Library grounds. This event is a fundraiser to begin a campaign to raise funds to purchase a swing set for the library lawn. Hop into Spring is designed for toddlers through age 10, the event will include an Egg Hunt, Storytelling, Crafts and Organized Games, a Live Animal Exhibit featuring chicks and bunnies, a Planting Booth, Face Painting, a Sing-a-Long, and a Children's Book Sale. There is a suggested donation of $1 at the door per child. Food and beverages will be available to purchase.
The Egg Hunt will take place from 11:30 to Noon, with toddlers to 6 year olds up first, followed by 7 to 10 year olds. A few of the games planned include a Sack Race, "Duck Duck Goose," "The Bunny Says," and an Egg Toss. "This is a great example of kids helping kids," said Judith Schneller, English teacher and Honor Society Coordinator at the High School. "This was their idea, and they are handling all the details."
Registration for the event would be helpful for planning purposes. In the event of rain, activities will take place indoors. Please Register

We need team members!
6th through 9th Graders
Battle of the Books is a national Summer Reading Program for middle school students who will be in the 6th through the 9th grade in September, 2014. Participants in the Mid-Hudson Library System program are asked to read eight selected titles and then participate in trivia battles based on the books. The Battle is held September 6, 2013.
The goal of the program is to promote a love of reading in middle school-age children, to expose them to titles and authors that they might not encounter in school and to inspire teamwork and good sportsmanship in an atmosphere of friendly competition.
The member libraries of the Mid-Hudson Library System have been participating in Battle of the Books for nine years. The Stone Ridge Library has been competing for eight years. 25 Mid-Hudson libraries in all participate.
How does it work? The library gives you copies of the books. You read them on your own time. Then we will meet periodically during the late spring and summer to discuss the books and practice answering questions about the books.
The titles of the Battle Books are:
- An Elephant in the Garden by Michael Morpurgo
- Dead End in Norvelt by Jack Gantos
- Icefall by Matthew J. Kirby
- Legend by Marie Lu
- Liar and Spy by Rebecca Stead
- Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
- Ninth Ward by Jewell Parker Rhodes
- Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater by Michael Morpurgo
