T.A.G.
(TEEN ADVISORY GROUP)
Our Teen Advisory Group is under way. The teens have helped to plan children's events, create displays, participated in a float in the Memorial Day Parade, and some have gone on to battle other libraries during the Battle of the Books event. Teens and tweens interested in furthering their participation with the library can join together in this group. Future projects include Holiday Book Sale. If you have ideas about what the library can offer patrons young and older then we want your input too. T.A.G. is a group of teens, run by teens, for teens and the library. If you have some interest please contact Julianna at julimuth@aol.com or call.

Movie Mondays
Hang-out at the library once a month to watch a movie that has been inspired by a book. We'll project the movie on to a big screen and enjoy popcorn and juice.
Join us on the following Mondays at 3:30- 5:00:
February 1st - Charlotte's Web (2006) (rated G)
Fern is one of only two living beings who sees that Wilbur is a special animal, while she raises him--the runt of the litter--into a terrific and radiant pig. As Wilbur moves into a new barn, he begins a second profound friendship with the most unlikely of creatures--a spider named Charlotte--and their bond inspires the animals around them to come together as a family. When the word gets out that Wilbur's days are numbered, it seems that only a miracle will save his life. A determined Charlotte--who sees miracles in the ordinary--spins words into her web in an effort to convince the farmer that Wilbur is "some pig" and worth saving.
March 1st - Enchanted (2007) (rated PG)
The tale follows the beautiful princess Giselle as she is banished by an evil queen from her magical, musical animated land--and finds herself in the gritty reality of the streets of modern-day Manhattan. Shocked by this strange new environment that doesn't operate on a "happily ever after" basis, Giselle is now adrift in a chaotic world badly in need of enchantment. But when Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer who has come to her aid--even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince back home--she has to wonder: can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?
April 5th - Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009) (rated PG)
A scientist tries to solve world hunger only to see things go awry as food falls from the sky in abundance.
May 3rd - TBA (I'm hoping Where the Wild Things Are) (2009) (rated PG)
Max, a rambunctious and sensitive boy feels misunderstood at home and escapes to where the Wild Things are. He lands on an island where he meets mysterious and strange creatures whose emotions are as wild and unpredictable as their actions. The Wild Things desperately long for a leader to guide them, just as Max longs for a kingdom to rule. When Max is crowned king, he promises to create a place where everyone will be happy. Max soon finds, though, that ruling his kingdom is not so easy and his relationships there prove to be more complicated.

BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

The Stone Ridge Library is pleased to be taking part in the Mid-Hudson Library System’s 5th Annual Battle of the Books this summer. This great book-based competition will be an exciting part of our summer reading program. The Stone Ridge Library will be inviting students going into grades 6-9 to become members of our Battle of the Books library team. This team will then represent our library and our community at the Regional Battle of the Books competition in the fall.
Battle of the Books is a nationally recognized literature contest in which young people answer trivia questions based on specific books they have read. It encourages young people to get involved with great literature, work together as a team and then gather with other teens in the spirit of friendly competition to test their knowledge. This year will be challenging, with 22 Hudson Valley libraries sending teams to the competition. For more information about this exciting program, contact the Julianna at 687-2044 or at: julimuth@aol.com
The eight book titles this year are:
- Chains - Laurie Halse Anderson
- Crossing the Wire - Will Hobbs
- Elsewhere - Gabrielle Zevin
- Hidden Talents - David Lubar
- Life As We Knew It - Susan Beth Pfeffer
- The London Eye Mystery - Siobhan Dowd
